Stage Entertainment GmbH (Hamburg) - Director New Business Development - 05/04– 04/06
Alan Wasser Associates (New York) - 07/94 – 07/95
London School of Economics und Kelley School of Business
Gregor Hopf führt einen Doktortitel der London School of Economics sowie einen MBA der Kelley School of Business in Finanzen und Performing Arts Management.

Gregor Hopf
Independent Producer and General Manager
Since May 2006 Gregor works as an independent General Manager and Producer in Hamburg. Following the example of New York and London’s vibrant theatre communities, Gregor aims to offer potential theatre producers and creatives an alternative way of realising their theatre projects in Germany independent from the large, market dominating musical producing and theatre operating corporations.
As a member of the German board of directors Gregor was in charge of extending the company’s product portfolio beyond musicals as well as developing its touring businesses in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Within two years Stage Entertainment’s new business division was built up to generate an annual turnover of 70 million Euros. During this time Gregor was responsible, among others, for the German speaking musical productions of CATS as well as Elton John and Tim Rice’s AIDA, the German tours of HOLIDAY ON ICE, the introduction of stand-up comedy as a live entertainment format in Germany with the start of a chain of stand-up comedy clubs under the label of QUATSCH COMEDY CLUB. He also spearheaded the company’s move into large scale arena events with the BEST OF MUSICAL GALA in Cologne as well as the annual dance event SENSATION WHITE, which turns one of the best known football stadiums in Germany into a gigantic party venue for one night of the year.
After his move back to Germany Gregor has worked for Stella Musical AG as the Associate Production Manager for the German speaking premiere production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT in Essen. Thereafter he moved to London to become the Managing Director and Executive Producer of Stella Musical Ltd. looking after the West End production of Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. The show won the 1998 Lawrence Olivier Award for Best New Musical, broke a number of sales records and was in its opening season the most popular show in London’s West End. Due to the financial difficulties of Stella Musical in its German home market the London production was returned to Disney Theatrical and Gregor took on the responsibility of head of restructuring of Stella’s German theatre business. In less than twelve months Stella was successfully reorganized, so that its theatres could continue to operate although under new ownership.
Gregor Hopf has started his career in commercial theatre in 1994 on Broadway, where he worked for Alan Wasser Associates as the Assistant to the General Manager of Cameron Mackintosh’s three Broadway und six touring productions of LES MISERABLES, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA und MISS SAIGON. These productions have reinvented the musical business and particularly the touring circuit in the USA. In the mid-1990s they were the unrivalled market leaders with a combined market-share of almost fifty percent of the complete US commercial theatre market.
London School of Economics and Kelley School of Business
Gregor holds a PhD and MSc degree from the London School of Economics as well as a MBA in Finance and Performing Arts Management from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
